Porch lunch at Copenhagen Bakery, Northport

A scenic spot for a midday meal, not long ago, was the front porch of Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe, situated across from the harbor in Northport. Baker-owner Fleming Hansen recently did a major expansion and launched a menu of made-to-order breakfast, lunch and brunch dishes. Get in line, place your order; you’ll be given a number and your food will be brought out to you.
My choice was lump crabcakes ($10.95), made by Fleming's wife, Stacé Hansen. While the cakes evidenced a definite bread involvement, crab predominated; a zippy green-hued Danish rémoulade accompanied, along with a string bean salad possessed of both crunch and vibrancy. Sharing the plate, as well, was a well-seasoned quinoa salad. And lovely local Long Island tomatoes.
Also on the menu: waffles with fruit ($4.95), breakfast crepes (one for $3.94, two for $6.95, three for $7.95), a veggie omelet ($8.95) and tomato basil pie ($8.95).
For dessert, there’s the entire bakery to choose from.
Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe is at 75 Woodbine Ave., Northport, 631-754-3256, copenhagenbakery.net.
