Port Jefferson’s restaurant scavenger crawl from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday adds a dash of historic flavor to a walking tour sampling of local comfort food and drink.
Visitors to each of a dozen local eateries will be served a hot drink, a snack or both. Then they’ll answer a history question with clues from a vintage photo of the establishment. Complete the quiz to qualify for $200 raffle prizes.
Lisa Harris, co-owner of the East Main & Main craft doughnut shop, says she’s setting out strawberry, chocolate and vanilla doughnut shooters — also known as doughnut holes in small plastic cups. The doughnut shop is located inside a landmark building, Harris says.
Harbor Grill, located in another landmark building, will be serving hot-buttered rum and shortbread cookies, and C’est Cheese will be serving French soda and a Délice de Bourgogne cheese ice cream cones, says Barbara Ransome, director of operations for the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.
The history crawl is an attempt to match the success of last March’s breakfast crawl, which drew 300 people to the harborfront downtown, Ransome says. “We’re trying to encourage more foot traffic in offseason months so we wanted to come up with something a little more clever,” she explained.
Also on the crawl map: The Fifth Season, Locals Café, Nantuckets, Pasta Pasta, Roger’s Frigate, Slurp Ramen, Starbucks, The Steam Room and Tommy’s Place.
