Port Jefferson: Naked Cowboy Oysters
This Saturday, The Catch in Port Jefferson will be hosting its first annual Naked Cowboy Oyster Festival. The eponymous Naked Cowboy is a naked-but-for-a-strategically-slung-guitar street performer whose act is a Times Square fixture.
Naked Cowboy oysters are harvested by Sayville bayman Chris Quartuccio, who sought a name for his bivalves that “exemplified New York and embodied the timeless qualities of passion and boldness.” What better avatar of passion and boldness is there, he said, than “a guy in his underwear singing in Times Square?”
The Naked Cowboy will be in attendence.
In addition to Naked Cowboy Oysters, The Catch will be shucking Peconic, Mystic, Tomahawk and Blue Point oysters and serving Greenport brews Harbor Ale, Disorient IPA, Black Duck Porter and Leaf Pile Ale, Lieb Cellars Pinot Blanc, Bridge Lane White merlot and Bridge Lane Cabernet Franc. $20 buys you a sampling of each oyster, beer and wine. After that it’s “a buck a shuck” and $5 for beer and wine.
The festivities go from 2 to 6 p.m. Buy tickets online or call The Catch at 631-642-2824. The Catch is at 111 W. Broadway, Port Jefferson.
