Port Washington restaurants open after Prospect Avenue fire
Downtown restaurants in Port Washington were open Wednesday after a fatal explosion and fire at a nearby residence Tuesday night..
The blast, which occurred about 9 p.m. Tuesday, was felt a mile away. One person died. Five firefighters were injured. Read about the fire here.
Main Street restaurants were not damaged by either the explosion or the fire. One of the major eateries, Louie's Oyster Bar & Grille, had customers exit quickly. The restaurant is open today, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dynasty, a Chinese restaurant close by, is open until 9:30 p.m. or 10 p.m. today.
The destroyed residence, which was built in 1908, was a few blocks from the downtown business district.
