After Irene has left Long Island, there’s a good chance many homes and restaurants will be left without electrical power.

That’s why it may prove helpful to know about the few restaurants in possession of their own generators, enabling them to cook and serve even during a blackout. Of course, it would be wise to call ahead to make sure the place is open.
