If you have fond memories of hoisting a Guinness, downing a burger and betting on the races at Potter’s Pub in East Meadow, you have only a short window of time to get  there before the place closes for good this Saturday night.

Mike Amitrano, who has owned the pub for 23 of its 41 years, said that the damage caused by superstorm Sandy proved financially crippling. “I laid out so much money to reopen,” Amitrano said, “and then my insurance claim was denied.”

Amitrano said his Dublin-born wife Joyce, the restaurant’s chef, is known for her corned beef and cabbage and shepherd’s pie as well as a steak tidbit sandwich.

Potter’s Pub is at 2045 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, 516-794-6698.
