It’s not often that a restaurant returns from the great beyond, but Kurofune Japanese Restaurant in Commack is back from that great sushi bar in the sky.

The long-standing Japanese dining spot, which originally opened in 1981, had closed in March of this year. Now, said owner June Kim, it’s reopened under new ownership, having undergone extensive renovations. Japan-born head sushi chef Kanama Etsuzo is back in his former position behind the sushi bar, while the kitchen has a new head chef, Marcos Pilapil.

On the menu: spicy ika, or squid ($12.50), potato korokke, or deep-fried Japanese potato croquettes ($9), tuna tataki ($10), rainbow roll ($12), chirashi ($25), chef’s special Japanese sashimi ($35), grilled Chilean sea bass ($25), sukiyaki ($16).

Kurofune Japanese Restaurant is at 77 Commack Rd., Commack, 631-499-0400
