Restaurant closings on Long Island in 2010
There were too many days this year when covering restaurants was a lot like writing obituaries. The recession and other factors contributed to a lengthy list.
Notable "fine-dining" closings include Soigné in Woodmere, Annona in Westhampton Beach, Venue 56 in Hauppauge, Wildthyme in Southampton, Nick Diangelo in Long Beach, Monterey in Long Beach, Gabrielle's in Rockville Centre, Cu29 Wine & Bistro
in Sayville, Bliss2 (Squared) in Blue Point, Dino's Joint in Melville, Blond in Huntington, Palio in Jericho, Speranza in Syosset, Maxxels in Mineola and 18 Bay in Bayville.
In the "Cheap Eats" category, six of the 51 restaurants reviewed this past year didn't survive: Tasca Convivio Chop House in Mineola, Ristorante BeSi in East Meadow, Fatty Beltbuckles in Farmingdale, Cafe Aioli in Glen Cove, Lounge Burger in Levittown and Green Tasty in Williston Park.
Other closings of consequence: Maize Cantina in Commack, Sally's Cocofe in Huntington, Green Melody in Syosset, Graffiti in Hewlett, MaryBill Diner in Merrick and Long Island's last Roy Rogers, in Shirley.
