3 Great Neck restaurants close, 1 opens

Three restaurants have closed in Great Neck and, so far, one has been replaced.

Sip City, across Middle Neck Road from the LIRR station, is gone. Cafe Rustica, which had a 22-year run farther north,  also has closed. And Lamed Vav, a sprawling, glatt kosher continental restaurant that recently opened on the south side of the train station, is no longer there.

At the former Sip City site, Rimon, a glatt kosher Mediterranean restaurant, has taken over. Main courses at Rimon are in the $13 to $28.95 range, and include dishes such as fluke ceviche, fish tacos with tilapia, stuffed eggplant, burgers, and grilled whole fish. Rimon is at 16 Middle Neck Rd., opposite the railroad station.

Cafe Rustica announced its closing on its web site, with the headline "FAREWELL to Great Neck."  The note thanked customers for making "the past years very memorable."  It was one of the first Long Island restaurants to introduce a gluten-free menu. Cafe Rustica was at 200 Middle Neck Rd.

Lamed Vav lasted less than a year. Despite repeated efforts, former owner  Alex Levine could not be reached for comment. Lamed Vav's sibling, Brasserie HaLevi, remains open in Cedarhurst. Lamed Vav was at 20 S. Station Plaza. A sign in the window says that Station Grill is opening soon under new ownership.
