Chef Art Gustafson

Chef Art Gustafson Credit: Handout

A new chef has pulled into at Chadwick’s at the Station in Rockville Centre. Art Gustafson is no stranger to the restaurant, which is situated across from the LIRR. Earlier in the decade, Gustafson cooked at Chadwick's and returns after several years on the corporate, country-club and cruise circuits.

Now, he says, he's aiming to take the place to another level. To do this, he's tweaking the Continental classics using global and New American influences. So instead of shrimp cocktail, his menu presents “tango tango shrimp,” which translates into jumbo shrimp tempura with sweet chili and soy sauce and a chilled fresh tomato salsa ($12). And, instead of duck a l’orange, he offers “crispy roasted half duck with a fig glaze” ($25).

Among Gustafson's specials: Short ribs slow braised in port for six hours and finished with a dried plum-clementine compote ($25). Pan-roasted Chatham cod topped with a red onion-tomato confit and finished with roasted shallot-yellow pepper coulis ($20). And — does it get more 2011? —  lobster roll sliders ($12).

Chadwick’s at the Station is at 49 Front St., Rockville Centre; 516-766-7800.
