The Boston-based seafood chain has announced that the Roosevelt Field Legal Sea Foods will be closing. According to company spokesman Ida Faber, the restaurant will be serving through Jan. 22, 2012. Faber says the lease expires on Jan. 31, and Legal is “not extending our residency at that particular location. We are looking at alternate sites and we hope our location at Walt Whitman Mall will satisfy our guests’ appetite until we are able to ink a deal.”

Faber said that the Roosevelt Field employees "are being offered opportunities elsewhere within the company."

Legal Sea Foods opened in Roosevelt Field in 2004. It was the second Legal on Long Island; the Walt Whitman location in Huntington Station opened in 2000.

Newsday's food staff considers Legal Seafood one of LI's better chains. New England standards such as steamers, fried clams and three clam chowders — red, white and Rhode Island (clear) — are consistently excellent.
