Schafer's has a prime perch looking onto the harbor in Port Jefferson. It's worth a visit for the pretty spring-summer view and casual, eclectic cooking.

The eatery offers live music, recently high-decibel variety with a baby-boom playlist. But there's a clubby first-floor dining area where you'll be protected.

Try the crisp fish-and-chips and the steamed lobster, both very good. Precede them with well-seasoned rice balls or steamed mussels. The flourless chocolate torte, a vertical wedge of richness, leads the sweets.
