Seafood restaurant Cafe Max in East Hampton set to close after 25 years

After more than 25 years in business, the no-frills Cafe Max in East Hampton is set to close Thanksgiving weekend.
Chef-owner Max Weintraub opened in 1990 and built a menu around simple preparations of seafood, purchasing fish from Gosman’s in Montauk.
In 2013, Weintraub sold the restaurant to employee Sami Krasniqi. Krasniqi started as a dishwasher shortly after the place opened and worked his way up to sous chef.
Weintraub and his wife, Nancy, have remained involved from afar since the sale. Krasniqi and Weintraub have not responded to phone calls about the sale.
“A relaxed restaurant that survives year after year [while most Hamptons restaurants change owners and identities with regularity],” Newsday wrote about the restaurant.
Cafe Max takes reservations for three or more and is open Wednesday to Sunday at 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
