Seafood restaurant Turquoise closes in Great Neck

Turquoise, the Mediterranean-inflected Great Neck fish restaurant, has closed after a 16-year run.
First opened across the street from the Great Neck LIRR station in 1999, it was sold by its original owners to Erica Babushkin in 2010. Two years later, she moved the restaurant to Middle Neck Road, where it earned two stars from Newsday’s Peter M. Gianotti. “This must be one of the brighter dining rooms along Middle Neck Road,” he wrote. “The decor is awash with enough white to suggest one of those photos on a calendar promoting Greece. But Turquoise owes less to the Aegean than it does to the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean. The style is as sleek and modern as the cooking is homey and traditional.”
In 2014, Babushkin sought and received kosher supervision from the Vaad Harabonim of Queens. “The town is becoming more religious,” she said. “You have to change with the times.”
