Last night I had the perfect hot-weather meal. I stopped by Shake Shack at the Gallery at Westbury Plaza, not for a burger, but for a chocolate malted ($5.50) made with the Shack’s own frozen custard. The air-conditioning was adequate at Shake Shack, but I decided to enjoy my icy-thick, liquid meal in the coolness of the neighboring Container Store, where I strolled the well-organized aisles and bought a new laptop case and desk chair.

Between Shake Shack and Trader Joe’s (not to mention The Container Store’s abundant kitchen offerings), the Gallery at Westbury is a frequent culinary destination. The national chain Noodles & Company — whose menu features an international roster of pastas: cavatappi pesto, pad Thai, mac ’n cheese, steak stroganoff, etc. — is due to make its Long Island debut there on July 31. We’ll keep you posted.

Shake Shack is at 860 Old Country Rd., Garden City, 516-620-2880, shakeshack.com.
