On a frigid afternoon, I found hearty food and high spirits at Long Island Cheeseburger in Wantagh. The nostalgia-themed eatery is no longer affiliated with the Long Island Cheeseburger in Lindenhurst.
Surrounded by 50s memorabilia (the likes of Elvis and "The Honeymooners"), I savored a big, fat, juicy turkey cheeseburger and a meltingly fine Philly cheesesteak sandwich.
A welcome touch in winter: soup was free with any platter. Both the chicken noodle and the ham and rice were homey and heartwarming.
On weekend mornings, breakfast is served: egg dishes, oatmeal, pancakes, Belgian waffles and all manner of French toast creations (like strawberry croissant and apricot-stuffed).
