On this absolutely miserable day, royal darkness reigns in Southampton.
Southampton Publick House formally released its 2012 Imperial Russian Stout today. This rich, black brew with a mocha-tan head will brace you for whatever the rest of winter has to offer. It could push back Napoleon.
Numbered bottles of the stout were made available at the brewery this morning. They're 750ml bottles, $15 each. It's a very good, lively, hoppy investment, with notes of roasted malt and chocolate. As the brewery advises it was inspired by strong British stouts that were exported to Russia under the tsars.
The stout is drinkable now. It will be an ideal accompaniment for the Super Bowl, this year's and for a few to come.
The brewery also released others beverages today. Look for the spirited 15th Anniversary Ale, also a 750ml number, also $15.
If you're in the neighborhood, stay for dinner at Southampton Publick House, for some fine pub-plus fare.
