Suffolk's only kosher meat market closes

Commack Kosher Meats, a kosher market, deli and caterer, has closed. The shop in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike was Suffolk County’s only kosher butcher.

Kathy DeMott, a receptionist at the nearby Commack Jewish Center, confirmed that the store had closed. She noted that Commack’s ShopRite sells a line of kosher meats but that, otherwise, observant Jews in the congregation had no choice but to drive to Nassau County.

Nassau kosher butchers close to the county line include kosher Food Emporium (1163 Old Country Rd., Plainview, 516-932-1331) and Woodbury Kosher Meats and Catering (428 S. Oyster Bay Rd., Hicksville, 516-681-7766).

On the kosher deli front, Northern Suffolk still has Zan’s Kosher Deli (135 Alexander Ave., Lake Grove, 631-979-8770).
