One of the four competitors in Thursday night’s episode of Food Network’s “Sweet Genius” is Rose Fuger, head baker and partner of A Taste of Home bakery in North Bellmore. Fuger has more than 30 years of baking experience; she has co-owned A Taste of Home for 10 years.

Long Island chefs have fared well on “Sweet Genius.“ Michael Mignano, chef-owner of Main Street Bakery in Port Washington, appeared on the pastry-competition’s very first episode, which aired Sept. 22, 2011. He took second place. A week later, Amos Hayon, pastry chef at Lola in Great Neck, won first, and collected the $10,000 prize.

Like Food Network’s "Chopped," “Sweet Genius” features four contestants who are winnowed down to one through three challenges, each of which features a mystery ingredient. Tonight’s episode, "Plane Genius," involves chocolate, exotic fruit, a “strong British staple,” and a “ballpark favorite.”

For Rose Fuger’s sake, we hope it’s popcorn or peanuts, and not hot dogs.

A Taste of Home is at 1992 N. Jerusalem Rd., North Bellmore, 516-486-1670.
