You'll have to wait a lot longer for Beijing duck in Glen Cove.
Tao's Peking Duck House, which specialized in its namesake dish, has closed. The restaurant, an offspring of Tao's Fusion in Selden, was one of the comparatively few Long Island establishments that served the classic of Chinese cuisine. Diners had to order the duck at least 30 minutes in advance.
Tao's Peking Duck House was known for its tableside presentation of the labor-intensive dish, which results in lacquered skin and tender meat. Diners may recall the dangling ducks, which lose the fat between skin and meat in the process. The basic version of the dish, an entire duck with buns and fixings, was $68. Dinner specials for two, four, or six diners, included side items from a special menu. They ranged from $58 to $138.
The restaurant earned a two-star rating in Newsday in June, 2017, shortly after it opened, primarily because of its well-prepared Beijing duck. Tao's also served familiar Chinese-Amercan fare such as General Tso's chicken. But you also could sample spicy Sichuan dishes.
Tao's Fusion remains open in Selden, at 1310 Middle Country Rd., 631-320-0414.
Tao's Peking Duck House was at 188 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Cove.
