Tate's in Southampton: Best new flavor

Tate's Bake Shop, the Southampton landmark and local capital of the cookie world, always is a delightful stop. But when a sign says "NEW," that means it's even more so.
And what's new are sensational vanilla cookies -- wafer-thin, sweetness restrained, and absolutely addictive. The last new Tate's taste, still terrific, was the double chocolate chip cookie. A dark and grand creation, it even looked decadent. The vanilla looks pristine and polite. But it's just as memorable. A seven-ounce bag is $5.25. Look for it.
For the record, the similarly priced double chocolate chip is an ounce weightier. While you're at it, consider the cranberry-oatmeal and the straightforward chocolate chip cookies, too. I'm also partial to the coconut macaroons, eight to a bag, for $6.25.
Just in case, you should dive into Tate's superior crumb cake, plus the pretzel sticks with salt for a savory aside. Restaurant bread baskets cry out for them.
