The Caffeinated Bunny opens in Melville

Bunny's Floral in Melville has a hopping new addition letting customers get their caffeine fix while building their own bouquet. It's offered through a new coffee cart called The Caffeinated Bunny.
Walk to the pink and teal coffee carton Schwab Road, where owner Judy Johnson is preparing drinks. Johnson, a self-proclaimed “espresso junkie,” was inspired to open the coffee cart after seeing how successful similar concepts have been during her trips overseas. She views the coffee cart as an add-on to the floral shop operation. The Caffeinated Bunny debuted last fall, opened for this season in the spring and went viral on social media this summer. Johnson plans to keep The Caffeinated Bunny open through fall, she said.
“I thought it was such a great idea and that we can enhance the flower shop a little bit and that’s exactly what it’s doing,” she said. “People come in, they make their own bouquets, they go shopping inside and they’ll sit for hours and have a couple of espressos and just enjoy their time and relax.”
The inspiration for the name is to honor Johnson’s mother, whose nickname was Bunny. Bunny’s Florals has been in Johnson family for 51 years and has been at the Schwab Road location for the past 25 years.
The family and pet friendly spot has 23 seats with umbrella shaded tables in the courtyard of the floral shop where guests enjoy the flower garden, antique furniture and sip their coffees to the sound of wind chimes and music.
The specialty drinks have punny names such as the Cuddle Bunny, hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate chips or the “Thumpa,” a quad over ice with sweet cold foam. The Caffeinated Bunny also offers gluten free sweet treats from Massapequa’s The Gluten Free Treat Shop. Johnson plans to add seasonal flavors including the ever-popular pumpkin spice.
