The Pearl of Oyster Bay has taken over the quaint little building, a half mile from “downtown,” that was for many years the home of Mill River Inn — and, subsequently, Serata and J. Michaels Tuscan Steakhouse.
The owners, first-time restaurateurs Monica and Neeraj Kundra, were impressed by the space when they dined at Serata. When they decided to open a restaurant years later, they returned to Oyster Bay.
Monica Kundra, a skilled home chef, runs the kitchen here. Her menu blends Indian, Italian and American influences with appetizers such as samosas ($8) and baked fish with aioli sauce ($10). Entrees include chili chicken with herbed gravy and fried rice ($18) crispy chicken Caprese, stuffed with spinach, topped with almond sauce and served on a bed of orzo ($18).
The room is a blend of charm and glam, with old brickwork, crystal chandeliers and Indian house music. The restaurant is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays.
