The Rex Burger & Lobster opens in Mineola
For pedigreed burgers, chicken or lobster, The Rex Burger & Lobster has opened in Mineola in a shopping center on Jericho Turnpike next door to Luigi’s Pizzeria.
Burgers dressed with American cheese are made from California-based Niman Ranch (starting at $8.95), seasoned mild or spicy; chicken comes from the organic Coleman Natural Foods (starting at $8.95) and lobster rolls with butter or mayo are stuffed with claw, knuckle and tail from Maine (starting at $19.95).
Order the sandwich of choice at the counter, then grab a drink and have a seat at the bar or a table in the 70-seat restaurant as you await its delivery.
The sips are straightforward, and, unlike the meals, include service at the bar, with reds, whites and sparkling wines and a handful of craft brews ($6 to $9).
Nonalcoholic drinks range from fountain soda to cold-brew coffee ($2 to $4.95).
In addition to signature sandwiches, the restaurant serves fries ($3.95) — with truffle oil, mayo, cheese or garlic — and an iceberg salad ($8.95) with tomato, bacon and crumbled blue cheese. Look for Haagen-Dazs milkshakes for dessert ($3.95).
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
