Newsday's Joan Reminick writes about the comforting Afghani cuisine at Choopan Grill, which she gives two stars. Among the Selden restaurant's best dishes: the dumplings, stuffed with the likes of leeks and chicken, called aushak; the fried turnovers called sambosa and the various palows.

Peter M. Gianotti gives one star to VINe/1SR in today's Newsday. Notable dishes at the Greeport spot, otherwise known as VINe Wine Bar and The First Street Restaurant, include cauliflower soup, pillowy ricotta gnocchi and the house-cured salmon with roasted beets, a hard-boiled eggand a flourish of crème fraîche.
