In this week’s Newsday, Joan Reminick rediscovers Maria’s Mexican & Latin Cuisine in Nesconset which, after 10 years, has reasserted itself with creative, vibrant food. The menu draws from Mexican, Cuban, Central and South American influences and, says co-owner Maria Mones, “we’re always looking for new recipes.”
Peter Gianotti visits two wine bars. Bin 56, under new management in Huntington, offers a downtown vibe, a communal table and a respectable menu. Highlights include grilled endive, spicy-sweet chicken wings; fish tacos; spring rolls; fig-Brie-prosciutto crostini and cevapi, or Croatian-style grilled ground meat. If you’re looking to try excellent Croatian wines, Bin 56 is your destination.
