"Big flavors" define El Pio Peruvian Restaurant, Newsday's Joan Reminick writes in this week's Cheap Eats review, giving the Glen Cove restaurant two-and-a-half stars. Try the traditional Peruvian appetizer of grilled marinated beef hearts or seviche mixto, an assortment of shellfish in a lemony marinade, or causa rellena (above), mashed potatoes stuffed with chicken or tuna salad.

Perfecto Mundo in Commack gets three stars in today's Newsday from Peter M. Gianotti. The chef’s "Latin-fusion festival" includes a sweet-potato pancake with pulled-pork, roasted corn, Fuji apple and cotija cheese; seafood tostada duo with lump crab salad, tuna tartare, pickled seaweed, finished with asparagus tempura and a mirin-soy glaze; and grilled skirt steak with banana sauce, roasted-pepper chimichurri and yucca fries.
