It’s time to take your ‘cue from the warm weather. Head east and stop at Townline BBQ in Sagaponack. Baby back ribs and St. Louis ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken, chopped brisket and hot dogs with sauerkraut and relish — all the right choices. On the side, try the collard greens, cole slaw, and especially the spicy bread-and-butter pickles. There’s a good selection of beers, too.

Watch as your falafels are made to order, shaped then fried, at Just Falafel in Carle Place. With a selection of sumac-dusted vegetables and pickles and a variety of flavored hummus, make your own sandwich or order from a short list of standards. Either way, the sandwich is not a pocket, but rather a wrapped-and-rolled pita, served warm.

Combining Japanese culinary techniques with Peruvian ingredients and vice versa, the food coming out of the kitchen of this relatively new restaurant is making waves in the sushi-centric town of Port Washington. Don’t miss the softshell crabs on huge cubes of watermelon, spiced with jalapenos; the warm mushroom salad with a citrus dressing, and the black cod with shredded filo on a lettuce wrap. Doors open onto a view of the harbor, across the busy Shore Road.
