The free-standing building in Valley Stream that once housed La Bistecca is now Truffle Restaurant & Bar.

Chef-owner Raed Jallad named the restaurant for the fungus whose super-earthy aroma is prized by chefs and diners.

Truffle oil shows up in a number of the dishes, drizzled over a wild-mushroom bisque ($9) or arancini (Italian rice balls, $13) or onion-crusted striped bass with black-eyed peas and sautéed kale ($25).

With or without truffles, the cuisine is global fusion, with no appetizer more than $17 and most mains less than $30. Most lunch mains are less than $20 and a lunch special — soup, panino or wrap and Parmesan truffle fries — is $14.99.

Truffle Restaurant & Bar is at 410 Rockaway Ave., Valley Stream, 516-887-3373, trufflerestaurantandbar.com
