After weathering the challenges that came with opening a restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic, Uptown Taco in Floral Park has closed after six years.
The taco spot's closure was announced on the eatery’s Instagram Saturday. In the post, owners Bill Barry and Lou Ventura said are selling the business. They served their last meal May 10.
“Uptown Taco was more than a business; it was a dream we got to live because of you,” reads the post signed by Billy and Lou. The owners did not immediately respond to request for comment.
The social media post has over 60 comments and over 780 likes.
The business, which replaced Oak House Mexican Kitchen on Tulip Avenue, opened in 2020. Uptown opened shortly before then-Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo mandated that restaurants suspend dine-in service altogether due to the pandemic, Newsday previously reported.
The menu, which had a lot of gluten free options, included loaded plantains and nachos as starters. The “gringo taco” was served in a hard shell, with ground beef, iceberg lettuce, pico de gallo, cheddar lime crema. Uptown also offered vegetarian tacos such as “veggie gringo,” cauliflower or Brussels sprouts options.
