Village Kitchen in Farmingdale has closed. A sign in the window says the Main Street restaurant is closed for renovations, but the phone has been disconnected and local sources confirmed that new owners were in the final stages of negotiating a lease.

The sleek, modern diner opened in 2014, taking over — and completely transforming — the nostalgia-themed premises that had been Bollinger’s Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor since 1998. Bollinger’s, in turn, had replaced Von Leesen’s, the historic luncheonette and ice cream parlor that had been serving sundaes and sodas since 1930.

The Plainview area (really, the whole chunk of central Long Island that lies along the Nassau-Suffolk border) is very light in the ice-cream-parlor department since In the Mood closed in Woodbury in 2012. We’re just saying.
