Weekend: Late-summer pleasures
As the summer weekends near sunset, you can hold on to the season a bit more at these three restaurants.
Squiretown Restaurant & Bar is a new addition to Hampton Bays: an American-style bistro. Clean lines, good looks, lots of cocktails and food that's just eclectic enough. Some choices: the raw bar, seviche, steamed lobster, strip steak.
Squiretown is at 26 W. Montauk Hwy., Hampton Bays; 631-723-2626.
The waterside setting is reason enough to visit View, which opened earlier this season at the former site of Riverview in Oakdale. It's a major makeover, from the look to the cuisine. Recommended: crab cakes, crisp calamari with a Thai accent, pan-roasted sea scallops, Beijing duck tacos, sushi rolls.
View is at 3 Consuelo Pl., Oakdale; 631-589-2694.
And in Greenvale, have fun at Bar Frites, the brasserie-style eatery from the Bryant & Cooper crew. It's a set decorator's showcase with some alfresco tables to put you in the boulevardier spirit. And the Frenchified fare is very good. Befitting the B&C provenance: fine steak tartare, steak au poivre, and, of course, steak frites. Also sample the pan-roasted chicken and the croque monsieur.
Bar Frites is at the east end of the Wheatley Plaza shopping center, at Northern Boulevard and Glen Cove Road, in Greenvale; 516-484-7500.
