Weekend Picks: Springtime suppers
Greet the season with some refreshing dishes from veteran eateries. Here are a few choices to put some spring in your appetite.
An obvious choice at reliable Arturo's is the torta primavera, a savory union of crepes layered with vegetables, cheeses, and cured meats, all delectable. Supplement it with other selections from the excellent antipasti. And follow with angel hair al pesto, finished with goat cheese.
Dependable downtown Huntington eatery Jonathan's offers appetizing salads, including the cucumber-and-radish number with white anchovies; and the Amalfitana, with radishes, fennel, oranges, arugula and citrus vinaigrette and seared sea scallops.
At Centro Cucina, enjoy the fettuccine with asparagus, tomato, scallions, arugula and fresh ricotta. Also recommended: "campo" salad with fennel and oranges, the individual pizzas and grilled whole red snapper.
Mainstay Gemelli sends out a radicchio, arugula, fennel, tomato and walnut salad vinaigrette. Afterward, sample linguine with shellfish in red or white sauce, bucatini all'Amatriciana, pecan-crusted grouper with braised lentils and sauteed string beans.
