The diverse flavors of Latin America are up for tasting at La Casa Latina, newly opened in Westbury. The pan-Latin restaurant takes up residence in the former digs of Yuki’s Palette (which is now located in Merrick).
I ventured into La Casas Latina for a look (and a takeout menu) and the signs looked promising: A pretty interior, with lots of ceramic tiles. A hospitable host. And a menu featuring such dishes as pupusas (corn cakes from El Salvador) stuffed with cheese, beans and/or pork ($2 each), grilled Argentine chorizos with chimchurri sauce ($6.50) and, as entrees, a variety of mixed meat platters (bandejas) from Honduras ($12.95), from Colombia ($13.95) and from El Salvador ($12.95). I was also intrigued by the pan-seared whole red snapper with izote and loroco flowers, fried egg, stewed grape tomatoes and basil ($19.95).
La Casa Latina is at 611 Old Country Rd., Westbury, 516-280-7795.
