Trodos, Westbury

Trodos, a Westbury Mediterranean restaurant named for a mountain range in Cyprus, opened last month. Its debut followed the closing of Ayhan’s Shish Kebab in the Mall at the Source across the street.

It so happens that Long Island shish kebab king Ayhan Hassan was born in Cyprus. Coincidence? It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that this ambitious new venture is under the aegis of the Ayhan Hospitality Group.

I stopped by and found the space (which housed Fortune and, before that, Zen Palate) to be a visually arresting study in Mediterranean blue and white. A large communal table was topped with colorful platters of lemons and tomatoes.

The menu is moderately priced, the costliest item a whole grilled branzino, at $20. I can vouch for both the creamy, tahini-laced hummus and the savory gyro.

Trodos is awaiting its liquor license.

Trodos is at 477 Old Country Rd., Westbury, 516-222-8000
