Because the end of March was so warm, The Whale's Tale in Northport opened early for the season. The outdoor restaurant in the Britannia Yacht Club, which had been the source of neighborhood complaints about noise, recently got a new lease on life. After the State Supreme Court put the matter into the hands of the Northport Village Board, that legislative body  rezoned the marine district. The use of a restaurant was allowed, but with some restrictions.  One was that the bar had to be relocated indoors. Another was that outdoor music was banned, as was outdoor congregating with alcoholic beverages.

That was fine with owner Sosh Andriano, who said that the place was a “family-style restaurant first.” Over the winter, Andriano had a new bar built indoors and, also, plastic wind curtains installed outside, to shield diners on the deck from inclement weather.

Currently, Andriano said, the place is running promotions for every week night, starting with “crabby” Monday, with a special menu dedicated to crabs, “taco Tuesday,” with tacos going for $2 each; “hump day” Wednesday, with a 20 percent discount on all takeout, and, on Thursday, two-for-the-price-of-one craft beers and half-priced appetizers.

The Whale’s Tale is at 81 Fort Salonga Rd., Northport, 631-651-8844
