Like a lot of well-heeled gastronomes, Whole Foods Market is heading to the Hamptons for the summer. The Austin-based food retailer has announced plans to open a “Whole Foods Market Farm Stand” in Wainscott on the site of the former Plitt Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership on Montauk Highway. It will be open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Does the Hamptons really need another farm stand, especially one much of whose produce comes from further afield than Suffolk County?

Whole Foods’ spokesman, Michael Sinatra, explained that the store would be more than just a produce section. “We’ll have a full product mix—dairy, grocery, meat, fish, specialty items—things from all our traditional departments, just in much smaller quantities.”

The store will be at 368 Montauk Hwy. in Wainscott. No more details are available, but they will be posted on Whole Foods Long Island Facebook page as they emerge.
