One of the most popular local cultural attractions in recent years is "Long Island, America's 1950s Frontier" at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History & Carriages in Stony Brook.

The exhibition features videos, photographs and artifacts from the days when Long Island was the quintessential American suburb, bursting at the seams with new highways, new neighborhoods and new residents from New York City and beyond.

Anyone 62 or older can see the exhibit for free on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. The museum, at 1200 Route 25A, is otherwise closed on Tuesdays, so seniors can take a leisurely. self-guided tour of the exhibit, which opened July 20, in the Art Museum.
