In high school, Nancy Kilkenny, of Babylon, was always moving. Softball, field hockey and volleyball were just some of the sports that kept her physically active. Now, she's an aerobics instructor who focuses on cardio and strength training with her clients, and also takes classes in Pilates and yoga.

Exercising energizes her, has kept her in shape, and helps to relieve stress, says Kilkenny, 57, who is married, with no children. "Not everybody can jump up and down and do weights," she acknowledges. "But with Pilates, you don't have to be an athlete. You can lay on the mat and just stretch."

Exercising at the gym provides the bonus of socialization. "Through it, I've built lifelong friendships," she says. "The camaraderie of all the girls helps so much."

Whether indoors or out, she urges everyone to fold fitness into their daily lives. Take the stairs at work, she advises, or go for a stroll after dinner.

"Walk the dog instead of simply opening the door," she says. "Just keep moving."
