It was in the early '80s when my mom went to clean the turkey my dad had bought at a supermarket. The foul odor overwhelmed her so that she sent my dad back with the horrific-smelling bird. It was the only Thanksgiving we ate chicken! I can still recall my dad regaling us around the Thanksgiving table telling us how long the line was with people returning their smelly turkeys. Both my loving parents have passed, but I think of that story every Thanksgiving.
