Answers to your tax return questions
Income taxes are due in a month, but you probably have questions today, especially if you are doing your own returns.
Even if you are not using an accountant, you can take advantage of the knowledge of a group of CPAs. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), an industry trade association, offers answers and tips at its website, 360taxes.org. The site features a collection of questions asked by taxpayers and the answers from institute members. There is also information that is aimed at owners of small businesses.
The association notes that the 2011 tax year may be the last chance to take certain deductions. Among the breaks set to expire are tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements.
And for those with Apple smartphones, the free app Ask a CPA has more than 2,500 answers to the questions accountants are asked most.
