Antiques appraisal workshop at Long Beach Library on Aug. 9

That family heirloom you've cherished for years has great sentimental value. But does it have any monetary value?

You can get a general idea of how to value antiques -- and perhaps get an appraisal of an item -- as the popular "Trash or Treasure" antiques appraisal workshop stops at the Long Beach Library next Saturday at 2 p.m.

The workshop, basically a Long Island version of the popular PBS "Antiques Roadshow" series, is presided over by Eddie Costello, left. Costello, a certified appraiser, has been entertaining and educating local audiences for years.

Costello will offer a free appraisal of one small item for the first 40 people who attend.
