If you're 50 or older, you might have quite a collection of vials and pill bottles -- and the doctors who prescribed them. In addition to your primary-care physician, you may have several specialists, and there's a chance none of them knows all the drugs you are taking. Throw in vitamins and supplements that you've self-prescribed, and the risk of a drug interaction grows.
Here's a chance to find out if you are taking a potentially dangerous mix of medicines. Gather your prescription drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements and head over to Freeport Memorial Library (freeportlibrary.info) on Wednesday for a free consultation with a pharmacist from St. John's University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The event, sponsored by patient-advocate organization Pulse of New York, begins at 10 a.m. The last consultation begins at 1:30 p.m.
