If you're getting away for a few days this summer, take your exercise regimen with you.
Whether you're staying at a hotel or at a loved one's home, you can pack what you need or find all the equipment for a good workout in your room. The National Institute on Aging offers the free publication "Workout to Go," which offers simple, but effective, routines.
For example, to maintain a strong grip, pack a small tennis ball and squeeze it for 3 to 5 seconds. Do this 10 times. Or to improve balance, hold onto the back of a chair with one hand and stand on one foot. Hold the position for 10 seconds. Repeat this 10 to 15 times, and then repeat the whole process with the other leg.
The "Workout to Go" booklet can be downloaded at 1.usa.gov/workout-to-go. For a free printed copy, call 800-222-2225.
