Feeding the grandkids in a healthy way
With school out, grandparents are opening their homes for extended visits from grandkids. If you're like many, you'll be doing something you probably never did with your own kids: spoiling them with treats before, during and after meals.
The American Academy of Pediatrics advises grandparents that instead of offering cookies and brownies, have plenty of fresh fruit available. The academy also suggests getting grandkids involved in healthy eating by having them prepare fresh vegetables for dinner.
Many potential diet pitfalls lurk when grandparents take the grandkids out for lunch and dinner. You don't have to trade the burgers and fries for tofu nuggets and broccoli, but cut down on the fat and calories by having grandkids share a meal. And yes, it's OK to say "no" when it comes to one treat too many, the academy says.
