A free brochure from the Department of Homeland Security can help you spot online scams and avoid bad medical advice from self-proclaimed online experts whose information might be inaccurate or harmful. "Cyber Tips for Older Americans" can be downloaded at nwsdy.li/cyber-dhs.
And to get a hands-on lesson in how not to become a victim, computer-training organization SeniorNet is holding a free seminar on computer security. The workshop will be at Northport Library on Tuesday, July 22 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. (631-261-6930) and West Islip Library on Tuesday, July 29 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. (631-661-7080).
