Free music in the air at Southampton shows

Summertime, and the listening is easy.

Among the plethora of free outdoor concerts offered on Long Island, Southampton Cultural Center's weekly "Concerts in the Park" may be the most diverse. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the popular series.

Depending on the week, you will see big bands, alternative rock, reggae, R&B, jazz, calypso or a girl-group trio that takes you back to the days of big hits and bigger hair.

Concerts are held at either Agawam Park or Coopers Beach. The series kicks off Wednesday with Big Band East and continues every Wednesday through Sept. 1. All concerts start at 6:30 p.m., and all are free. For a list of the concerts, go to scc-arts.org.
