Free seminar on avoiding falling victim to scams
Whether through home-repair scams, phony fundraisers or bogus investment schemes, seniors are in the crosshairs of criminals who believe older adults are easy prey. The FBI says seniors make attractive targets because many have sizable nest eggs, own their homes and have excellent credit. Additionally, the FBI says many senior victims don't report the crimes because they are embarrassed they fell for a scam.
West Babylon Public Library is hosting a seminar where you can learn about the most common scams and frauds that target seniors and how to avoid becoming a victim.
The free seminar, presented by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Suffolk, is Tuesday, May 27, at 2:30 p.m. For more information or to register, call 631-669-5445 or go to wbab.suffolk.lib.ny.us.
