Labor Day isn't until Sept. 7 -- the latest date in the month it can occur -- but don't be fooled: Summer is almost over.

Before you are forced to get out the snowshoes, put on the walking shoes at least one more time. Old Westbury Gardens is presenting "Late Summer in the Walled Garden," a guided tour of the plants and landscape designs on the grounds of the historic site. The event is next Sunday, Sept. 6, starting at 2 p.m. The tour is free after paying regular admission of $10 ($8 for age 62 and older). You can enjoy what may be the year's last look at some of Long Island's most beautiful foliage, because it may not be long before it disappears under a blanket of white.
