Whether it's making something bigger, smaller, firmer or smoother, boomers and seniors have been flocking to plastic surgeons.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says Americans spent more on cosmetic procedures in 2013 than in any year since 2008, when the nation was gripped by the Great Recession.

As for what's popular, the plastic surgery trade group says 2013's top surgical procedure was liposuction, which was performed more than 360,000 times. Rounding out the top five were breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, tummy tucks and nose surgery. Women accounted for 90 percent of the procedures, the group said.

The top nonsurgical cosmetic procedure by far was Botox injections, which were performed more than 3.7 million times.

Overall, Americans spent more than $12 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2013, the group said.
